This session aims to inspire new ideas, spark discussions, and challenge conventional thinking about where cord blood could go in the next years.

Technical Track

How do we grow our cord blood industry?

The key objective of this year’s Cord Blood Connect technical track is to bring international experts from diverse backgrounds to discuss the growth challenges of the cord blood industry globally.

Session 1: Role of MSCs in the Development of Regenerative Cell Therapies

How we can expand the scope of our sector evolving from a cord blood transplantation focus to a birthing tissue cell therapy approach, expanding the main interest from transplant medicine to other specialties such as pediatrics, endocrinology, neurology, among others

Key topics will include:

  • Cord tissue MSC clinical trials in auto immune diseases
  • Placenta derived MSC applications
  • Where and for what have birthing tissue stem cells been approved for clinical use?

Session 2: Communication and Awareness Challenge

Raising the awareness of families and doctors by balancing modern marketing techniques with good scientific evidence has also been an area of opportunity to achieve sustainable long-term growth in our sector

Key topics will include:

  • How is the informed-consent process contributing, or not?
  • Where do we draw the line between marketing and ethics?
  • What is the position of ob/gyn's and pediatricians?

Session 3: Key Scaling and Growth Challenges

Addressing the challenge of scaling the Cord blood industry is critical for increasing the impact of our work.

Key topics will include:

  • What lessons have we learned from recent industry consolidations around the world?
  • How to grow faster with quality? Are medical/scientific excellence, and acquiring sustainable profitability, conflicting objectives?
  • What new avenues would benefit from years of professional expertise in other areas like genetic testing and biobanking?
  • What role should public banking play going forward?

Session 4: Global Perspective & Regulatory Harmonization

Bring the global perspective to facilitate the sharing of diverse industry experiences and regulatory frameworks across the globe and how effective different regions have been in fostering healthy growth.

Key topics will include:

  • How and why do China, Japan and India differ so substantially from US, Europe and Latin America, in terms of the industrys characteristics?
  • Is global regulatory harmonization wishful thinking or a feasible objective
  • How does the regulatory frameworks of China, Japan, US, Europe and Latin America compare, and how can they compliment each other?
